Preparing for your wedding is a hugely stressful time. Everything building up to your special day can involve a ton of work and leave you with only a little free time. Planning your honeymoon is part of the process. No one really wants to stress on preparing for their honeymoon, especially in the few days before the wedding when relatives are arriving and it’s all coming together. Here are five tips to help you prepare in advance, so you can have the stress free experience you deserve on your luxury honeymoon.
- Make all possible arrangements in advance. You want to relax, not stress about the fact that you’re missing dinner at an exclusive restaurant or the snorkelling equipment has been completely reserved for the week. Check with your destination and book everything you think you’ll be interested in with a high demand. Don’t forget to leave some time for leisure too, though. You know you’ll want to spend a lot of time in your room, so make sure that time is still available.
- Don’t pack too much! Remember that you’ll want room on the way back for souvenirs of your honeymoon, plus you don’t want to deal with the charge for excess baggage if your suitcases are overweight. But don’t forget the essentials, like your camera with extra memory, and an MP3 player for entertainment on the flights and for music in your room.
- Talk with your future spouse about your realistic expectations for the honeymoon. Choose everything together, barring little surprises that don’t require huge expenses or amounts of time. Visit the travel agent together, for example, and make sure both of you are happy with the results. It’ll be much easier to sit back and enjoy yourselves if you have already gotten the arguments out of the way.
- Check the weather at your destination and pack accordingly. It’s worth bringing loose, light coloured clothes to a very hot destination. As great as you look in skin tight tank tops and shorts, looser clothing will probably keep you cooler when you’re outside and will prevent uncomfortable sunburn. Don’t forget to bring a couple of swimsuits, too; very little is as unpleasant as putting on a cold, clammy suit for the second day in a row.
Bring essentials for the plane that you will either consume or can easily dispose of. It depends on what airline you’re flying, but you may not like the movie on offer, and if there’s only one to choose from, you’ll have quite a few hours of boredom. That’s no way to start a honeymoon. Bring along a few light, cheap paperbacks and potentially some magazines depending on what the two of you prefer. If you don’t want to carry them back, you can leave them for others in your resort. It’s also worth packing some snacks, eye covers, and earplugs for long-haul flights.
