Deciding Which Honeymoon Suits You

The range of honeymoons available these days is immense.  Many people do still opt for a beach honeymoon, but they’re often combined with safaris or culturally interesting excursions into countries like Thailand or Vietnam, which have more history and flavour to offer the excited traveller.  Many of us can afford to go on a normal holiday before and after our marriage, sometimes more than once a year, so we want to make our honeymoon the really standout holiday it should be. Even beach honeymoons feature island hopping and many honeymooners choose to stay at a variety of different resorts to get a wider feel for their chosen destinations.

Here are a few questions you could ask yourselves, and the type of honeymoon you might find exciting based on your answer.

relaxing on the beachDo you enjoy relaxing for days on end?

If yes, then go ahead and book that beach honeymoon at the world’s most relaxing island.  If your ordinary life is high powered, you may find the most romance in simply switching off for two weeks and being together.  If so, look for a resort with an amazing spa; there’s nothing like a massage to get the two of you in the mood.  You may also want one with a private patio or outdoor pool, perfect for reading, lounging, and enjoying the warm sunshine.  If you think you might get just a little bored, choose a resort that offers scuba diving or hiking, or pick a beach located near a city where you could have a night out dancing.

If you’re a definite no to relaxation, then perhaps another honeymoon would suit you better.  You might ask yourselves:

london natural history museumDo you enjoy history?

If yes, then there are many absolutely fantastic places you could visit with that extra undercurrent of historical happenings.  Consider a romantic honeymoon somewhere like London or Paris; the weather might not be honeymoon perfect, but there will be plenty to do and absorb throughout your stay. If you’re local and British, you might think about staying in a historical cottage or estate; bring along a few books about such a place and explore when the tourists have all gone.  Many historical properties are incredibly romantic and having the place to yourselves could be your dream come true.

If you’re not really bothered about the past, you might then consider asking:

Do you love the great outdoors?

If so, choose an amazing adventure honeymoon outdoors somewhere!  You might choose a safari, for example, which can be an incredible experience bringing you close to nature and one another.  Walking safaris are the best way to get really intimate with nature; they’re not for everyone, but I’ve heard that your senses truly come alive and you find yourself in total communion with nature.  I am hoping to go on my first safari in the next couple of years; I’m more of a luxury girl but I really want to have that experience.

Anyway, there are many great ways to get in with nature on your honeymoon.  Go somewhere near mountains that you can climb and explore, or even just go scuba diving more than once throughout the honeymoon.  There are many ways you can enjoy the beauty of nature while still having a relaxing romantic honeymoon.

It’s important to realise that a honeymoon can be whatever you want it to be and you can suit it to your individual needs.  Hopefully these three questions can help guide you towards the honeymoon you’ve always dreamed about, but the most important aspect is the person – the rest is just window dressing, albeit fabulous and exciting.
